I've always wanted to travel. I loved going places especially internationally. Get to embrace other cultures, try new food and dances, and meet new people. The best part was telling people that I was leaving. I remember one time I met this guy who asked me out and I said sorry I'm leaving for Dominican Republic tomorrow and won't be back for awhile. (Dude was persistent and I did eventually go out with him months later and pretty much had the most uniquely best time ever but I digress) In just a year, my travels have become seemingly less impressive as my world has turned more international in ways I'd never imagine.
My job, for instance, has about 6 Americans out of 50 employees. The majority of people come from unique locations like Czech Republic, Burma and Nigeria. When someone slips up with the English language and misplaces a preposition or says something like "going to the loo*" or " going back to me flat**" I am the only one who snickers, there's no one else to make eye contact with. My months in different countries pale in comparison to the years that most of the Americans there have spent in other countries.
Now, my home life, just yesterday my roommate was yelling into her computer at 9:00p.m. interviewing a man from East Timor. (Get your maps out cause I know you don't know where that is. I only found out a few months ago myself :) )
My boyfriend is living and working in Korea and just today I found out I was going to Bangladesh for work in the spring. I never thought I would expand to travel to Asian countries (mostly because 2 day flights aren't sexy) but I am excited about my future will lead me. So I will follow (at least until I have a family cause I'm not spending years by myself in a foreign country).
