I was a hippie. Was. I wish I was still centered and took no cues from the world around me. That's hard to do in DC. The world, the media, social norms will teach you that everything should be about you, everything should be instant gratification, I want= I go get right now. Young adults don't save up money to get that perfect car, they start out at 16 with a BMW, Benz, or Lexus from the get-go. People don't start at the bottom, they wish to touch the top by 29, wish to retire at 40. Get frustrated at 25 that they aren't going anywhere in their jobs. I deserve more, they don't pay me enough. I am the first to admit guilt to some of these phrases. Why do we "new generation"* deserve so much? What have we done? Have we paid our way to complain about being on the bottom? NOOO.
Think back to when you first got a new job. Remember how grateful you felt, how you were willing to do the grunt work, smile, work extra hours, earn your keep? I charge you to take life like that. Is there something in your life worth having? A relationship, a job, a lifestyle, an ideal body shape? Don't grasp that community feeling that we often have of coming together to complain about things that aren't right in our life. Do ME** a favor. Tuck your head down, dig in your heels, and work hard. When you finally lift your head, look how far you've come.
Go and be blessed.
* Some people say Generation Y or something? I think something happened to people in their 30s - relationship wise and 26-30 are driven but wants to move quickly, under 25 you want something for nothing....generally....
** ME meaning you...not me literally...come on work with me...
