Day 337: Man cannot live by bread alone: an ode to bread

I love bread. Absolutely love bread. As a kid, I could crush some rolls that they put on your tables at restaurants. Or just a slice of white bread, that I would take the crust off, ball it up and eat it. My mom saw a problem (she was right, well at least when I got older) about my enormous bread in-take and enlisted God and the Bible to teach me a lesson. My mom innocently told me and my sister one day, "Did you know that man cannot live by bread alone? God encourages you to eat meat and vegetables as well."I looked in the Bible, and by golly it was in there!!! Well, I guess this is another rule to being a Christian and I guess God knows best, so I started eating less of my beloved bread and more of that other stuff.

FAST FORWARD AT LEAST 15 YEARS:

I am leaving Sunday church service frantically calling my sister:

Our phone calls often start with a movie quote, "Sista, you've been on my mind.*... MOM LIED!! Remember when she said, "Man cannot live by bread alone? SHE LIED! That is not how the context is in the Bible. The real context is we cannot live just with food and living wordly, we need to have the Word and have God in our lives."

My sister was aghast, but not completely surprised. This was not my mom's first tale, but we will save those stories for later. So Mom's shady story got me to stop eating so much bread, which practically saved my nice shape as an adult because every time I eat bread I pack on the lbs.

 Thanks mom for the lie.

*We always say a movie/tv reference to one another....Another of my favorites is "Hello....Is you doing my lady? (she says Yes I'm doing your lady)...Are you doing my girl?" Hehe- mind your own business having a sister is the best thing in the world.
