Day 362: Epiphany Day

Today is Jan 6th, the last official day of the Christmas season, Epiphany Day. It is celebrated as the day the Magi arrived to bring baby Jesus his gifts of gold, frankencense and myrrh. The days from Christmas to Epiphany Day are what the famous 12 Days of Christmas carol is about. Does anyone remember celebrating this when they were little. You leave out a decorated shoebox (didn't you get gifts in your shoes at some point during the Christmas holiday too?) and the next moring you wake up and it filled with gifts from the Magi, which was usually fruit, candy and chocolate. I did this at some point. OH and king cake, heavenly king cake. The one that tasted like a cinnamon roll with icing and green, gold and purple sprinkle dust with a plastic baby inside for good luck. Yum.  I think the ones from my childhood actually came from New Orleans. Can they still even celebrate this in school?

Let's speed to now. What does Epiphany Day mean for me at 26 years old? To me this feels more important that New Year's Day and its general resolutions. This is a chance to really open your eyes and see things in your life differently. In the last 6 days I've seen relationships, communications, and problems that all existed in my life previously, but I am now seeing them so positively. Things that bothered me in 2011 are now being shown while I went through those test and they produce things such as faith and patience. I don't know how long this will last, but I thank God for it. That's all for today. Click below for a link for 20 New Year's resolutions for 20-somethings, they are not only hilarious, they are spot on!
